Chairman of the CCPIT Jiang Zengwei met with a delegation led by former Malaysia Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and invited them to a banquet on April 21.
Jiang first welcomed the visit of the delegation. He thanked Mahathir Mohamad for his support for Zheng He Economic and Cultural Friendship Association and great contributions in promoting bilateral economic ties.
Jiang said Sino-Malaysia relations were lifted as comprehensive strategic partnership and bilateral ties entered a new level during President Xi Jinping’s visit to Malaysia in 2013.
He added this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the Association and the 6th World Chinese Economic Forum will bring far-reaching significance to bilateral economic ties and friendly exchanges. He suggested the two countries enhance trade and promote its quality for well-being and friendship between the two peoples.
Mahathir Mohamad thanked the warm reception of the CCPIT. He said bilateral friendly relations have a long history. Since Zheng He led a large fleet to visit Southeast Asian countries for advocating peace and friendship rather than aggression in history, the Association is a symbol of bilateral friendship. He proposed to pass the idea of the Association to other countries and invite business sector from more countries to join in. He also suggested both sides strengthen personnel exchanges to contribute to bilateral economy as well as the world economy.
